LEAP4Kidz is a locally owned and operated enrichment program serving the greater Seattle and Eastside school districts. LEAP programs offer After School and Camp STEM Enrichment programs that also provide a background in creativity, problem solving, and social cooperation. In our structured classes, students are able to explore a daily theme while they learn and play in a group setting. The classes are designed to be 20% instruction, 40% directed learning, and 40% creative self-directed exploration and play. The children work solo, in pairs and in groups to explore, learn, and interact with their creations.

We offer programs throughout the school year and can tailor the program to your students needs and interests. Classes are taught in 4, 6, or 8 weeks sessions for 1 hour each week. Camps are offered throughout the school year in 3, 4, and 5 day sessions for 3 hours each day.

Description of Programs

Leap4Kidz offers great Lego classes, including Jr Builder, Jr Engineering, Jr Robotics, and Lego Movie Making. This is a structured learning program where students will design and create while exploring science, technology, engineering, math, physics, language arts, history, social studies, and more. Classes are child centric with children working in pairs or teams to problem solve and create solutions themselves. Participants create a new project each week. Each class engages students and increases motivation with project-based learning, encourages students to solve authentic problems, and asks them to work with others to build real solutions.

PreK Building Basics

PreK Building Basics teaches the fundamentals of brick building, counting, patterning, letters, small motor skills and spatial reasoning while exploring facts about animals, plants, machines, and the world around us.

Kids explore the ABCs using lego models as a point of discussion while learning to work with friends, sharing, and problem solving.

*this class does use small lego pieces to encourage fine motor development so only children that have developed beyond the oral stimulation phase should enroll. Legos can be a choking hazard for smaller children or children not developmentally ready for smaller objects. Please use your discretion when enrolling.

Junior Builders (PreK-2nd grade)

LEAP4Kidz™ Jr Builders offers an integrated curriculum including math, science, history, language arts, and team decision making to children using LEGO® bricks. This is a hands-on class where students will build and design with Lego bricks. Student Builders will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills while learning, exploring, creating, and playing together.

In our structured class, students are able to design and construct machines, buildings and other models out of lego bricks, for grades PreK-2. The curriculum is new each week and the kids never repeat a lesson during the year.

We provide all materials for students to work in a lab-type setting using the bricks with an integrated curriculum based on math, science, language arts, and social studies. The classes are designed to be 20% instruction, 40% directed learning, and 40% creative self-directed play. The children work solo, in pairs, and in groups to design, build, and interact with their creations.

Jr Engineer

LEAP4Kidz™ Jr Engineer class offers an integrated STEM curriculum including science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as history, language arts, and team decision making to children using LEGO® bricks. This is a hands-on class where students will build and design with Lego and Technic Mindstorm bricks. Student Builders will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills while learning, exploring, creating, and playing together.

In our structured class, students are able to design and construct machines, buildings and other models out of lego bricks, for grades 1-6. Kids receive an introduction to simple machines including levers, gears, and pulleys using Lego models and motors to bring their creations to life! Learn about aerodynamics and Newton's Law of Motion with simple machine. The curriculum is new each week and the kids never repeat a lesson during the year.

We provide all materials for students to work in a lab-type setting using the bricks with an integrated curriculum based on math, science, language arts, and social studies. The classes are designed to be 20% instruction, 40% directed learning, and 40% creative self-directed play. The children work solo, in pairs, and in groups to design, build, and interact with their creations. Classes are broken out based on schools for beginner (generally 1st - 4th) and advanced (4th - 6th).

Jr Robotics (2nd - 6th grade)

LEAP4Kidz™ Jr Robotics class offers an integrated curriculum including math, science, history, language arts, and team decision making to children using LEGO® bricks and LEGO Education software. This is a hands-on class where students will build and design with Lego and Technic bricks. Student Builders will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills while learning, exploring, creating, and playing together.

In our structured class, students work with Lego WEDO software to learn the basics of building simple machines, engineering principles, and beginning programming. Kids learn to interpret cause and effect and change results through creative problem solving of both the model and the software program.

Lego Education WEDO software and learning program provides a hands on learning experience that actively engages children's creative thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The WEDO environment is programmed with simple, drag and drop software that allows for scientic exploration of basic machines and engineering principles.

Engineering Principles Practiced:

Simple machines built including how gears, pulleys, levers work and interact. How machines transfer energy. How to speed up, slow down, change direction of motion using physics and math. Interpret 2D and 3D models. Modify a model’s behavior by changing the mechanical system. Become familiar with complex motion using cams, worm gear, and crown gear as well as friction and energy transfer.

Educational Skills Practiced:

Scientific inquiry; Testing hypothesis; Interpret 2D and 3D models; Use software to acquire information; Use feedback to adjust programming and result; Apply principles of motion in physical science; Whole numbers and fractions; Model building; Brainstorm creative solutions with a team.

Computer Skills Practiced:

Basic cause and effect; Drag and drop formatting; icon identification and editing; File creation and saving; Organizing and Text Creation; File and Text Formatting; adding and deleting; and more.

Jr Art Appreciation (K - 2nd grade)

LEAP4Kidz™ Jr Art Appreciation offers an integrated curriculum including expression, history, language arts, and team decision making to children using drawing medium. Learn about great works of art throughout history while exploring conceptual development, expression, and materials in this fun, creative class.

Children will work in drawing media including pencils, markers, and crayons. Each lesson will discuss a historical work of art, the concept behind each artwork, the individual who created the work, the each artwork's creative significance to mankind. The child will create their own art using the concepts discussed and explore how their own thought and creative expression influences their world!
